15 Years of

2008-2023

Stetten Wilson is celebrating 15 years of photographing destination weddings in 2023, but the story starts generations before.

The art of photography slowly passed down through Devin Wilson’s family: in the 1930s his great aunt traveled the world as a Lieutenant Colonel in the military carrying her medium format camera to far off and exotic locations. She passed her camera and knowledge down to Devin’s father, who eventually continued the legacy by teaching Devin about photography and passing the camera onto him. Devin still uses his great aunt’s Rolleicord film camera at weddings and in everyday life.

1960s

Devin's deep love for photography started at a young age. Growing up in coastal North Carolina, he spent hours tinkering with the family's old film cameras, capturing waves on surf trips and studying light and composition.

Meanwhile, Skylar Stetten was finding her own path in the creative arts. Raised near the beach in Wilmington, North Carolina, she was captivated by her grandmother's stories and film photographs of adventures abroad. Always one to take photos and have them printed, Skylar loved photography from a young age. Skylar's eye for design and architecture was shaped by her mother, who included her in design projects and historic home tours.

1990s

Throughout college, Devin's passion for photography grew, and he took his camera with him on his journeys around the world.

2002

It was during this time that his work gained recognition after he started selling prints in fine art galleries across North Carolina.

2004

The turning point came in 2008 at his own fine art show in North Carolina when Devin was unexpectedly commissioned to shoot his very first wedding. This unique opportunity combined his strengths and interests, and he found himself capturing a multi-day destination wedding in Costa Rica. Inspired by the beauty and emotion of the event, Devin knew he had found his calling as a wedding photographer.

2008

Skylar's passion for photography led her to pursue studies in Spanish language and architecture in Spain, as well as courses in art history, sculpture art, and landscape architecture at NYU. It was during this time that she began working as a freelance photographer, capturing before-and-after photos for a global non-profit organization called Operation Smile.

2010

Fate brought Devin and Skylar together at a training meeting for Operation Smile, and they quickly discovered their mutual love for photography. They joined forces to shoot a wedding in Washington, DC, and realized their unique strengths and styles complemented each other perfectly. Skylar's meticulous eye for design and production seamlessly blended with Devin's organic photojournalistic approach.

2013

With the success of their collaboration apparent, Skylar officially joined Devin's business, and the duo began traveling the world to capture extraordinary moments and create lasting memories for couples.

2016

Between their travels and throughout Covid, Devin and Skylar mourned the loss of Devin's father and Skylar's grandmother, an important reminder of just how much we cherish photos of people we love.
