Travel

Passports & Visas:
Americans and Canadians do not need a visa to enter Spain but you will need a valid passport. Friendly reminder to ensure your passport is valid. It must be valid until three months after the planned date of departure.

Airport:
Fly into the Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI).

Palma de Mallorca is an international airport that serves the island and is the third largest airport in Spain, and the only airport in Mallorca. Most all European cities fly direct into Palma airport. There are non-stop flights to Palma from major European cities outside of Spain including London, Paris, Zurich, Vienna, Frankfurt and more.

Renting a Car:
We recommend renting a car for your stay so that you are able to enjoy all that the island has to offer! Uber is new to Mallorca and may not be reliable, and taxis can sometimes be difficult to get around the island. With that said, you will easily be able to get a taxi to your accommodation from the airport and back if you do not wish to rent a car.

Where to Stay

The Saturday welcome boat cruise will be departing from and returning to the port in Palma. Some guests may be interested in staying in Palma for Friday and/or Saturday night. Since it's more touristy, there are plenty of hotel options there as well.

For Sunday night, we recommend staying in the town of Deià. We have recommended four hotels in Deia and one just outside of Deia listed below as well as Airbnb, and VRBO options. Sunday and Monday events will be taking place in the town of Deia. There are also nearby towns of Soller and Valldemossa that have more hotel options and they're a short car ride away from Deia.

Our itinerary:
We'll be staying in Palma for a few nights before the boat cruise to acclimate to the time change. During that time we plan to explore the south and southeast sides of Mallorca by car. On Saturday, we'll explore Palma before the boat cruise and stay there that night. On Sunday, we'll make our way to Deia for the rest of the events. On Tuesday, October first, you may find us relaxing in Deia and we have unofficial and tentative plans to walk to Ca's Patró Marche for lunch with whoever wants to join, then drive to Soller in the late afternoon and take the historic tram down to Port de Soller for sunset and dinner. Please reach out if you want to chat through your own itinerary with us.

Guide to Deià

Located on the northwest edge of the island, Deià is at the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Cultural Landscape of the Serra de Tramuntana. Away from the tourist traps and packed hotel zones, it’s a true treasure.

This coastal village has fewer than 1,000 residents and has held onto much of the traditional Spanish and Moorish architecture and traditions that make this place so special.

Deià and its literary and musical residents will give you a glimpse into what life was like on the islands before the travel boom.
